Melasma Laser Treatment
Hyperpigmentary disorders, particularly melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, cause significant social and emotional stress to the patients. Though many treatment modalities have been developed for melasma, its management still remains a challenge due to its recurrent and refractory nature. With the advent of laser technology, the treatment options have increased particularly for dermal or mixed melasma.
Lasers have revolutionized the healing of many dermatological conditions. One of these is the pigmentary disorders. Lasers have been extensively used with variable success for the Treatment of Melasma conditions which include Becker's nevus, Nevus of Ota, cafe-au-lait macules, nevocellular nevi, lentigines, tattoos, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Although many pigmentary disorders have shown good results with laser treatment, the efficacy and safety of lasers for melasma is still controversial.
